Types of Basset
Basset Artésien-Normand (height 30-36cm). This is a long smooth haired hound with slightly crooked legs. The eyes are large and dark with calm and serious expression. The red of the lower lid (haw) may sometimes appear. The colour is dark tri-colour with tan head.

Basset Bleu de Gascogne (height 34-38cm). This hound is very similar but not related to the Basset Artésien-Normand. It is larger and always has straight legs. The colour is distinctive with black patches on the background of blue mottle and white.

Basset Griffon Vendéen (height- petit 30-34cm and grand-(60-68cm). This hound comes in two heights and is of similar body size both with straight legs. They are rough coated and their appearance is of the typical shaggy dog. The hound comes in a variety of colour combinations of white, cream and lemon.

Basset Fauve de Bretagne (height 32-38cm). This hound is related to the Griffon but is more compact. The coat is a distinct wheaten or fawn colour with occasionally a patch of white on the chest and neck.

English Basset Hound This hound has been developed over the years in England and includes careful breeding for hunting purposes. For example making sure the hound has good legs for running. The actual development of this type is referred to in the history of Bassets section.
Basset Hound (33-38 cm). A heavier and lower hound than the Basset Artésien-Normand with a Blood-Hound like head and crooked legs. Developed in England. Colour can be any combination of black, tan, lemon, orange and white.
